Palm Canyon, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Sorry for the long delay in posting. Yesterday, I went to Palm Canyon in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. There were a lot of greenery and flowers that I will post pictures of later. This one was taken near the entrance to the first Palm Canyon palm grove which is the one that most people see. There are actually a couple of other groves further up the trail, but they are hard to get to.

Urban Palm Grove

I just discovered this palm grove near Lake Murray across Baltimore Drive. This was taken with my Canon Digital Rebel with automatic settings. Taken at f14, 1/200 sec with a 50mm lens.

Coachella Valley Preserve

This is one that I took a couple of years ago. It's the main palm grove near the parking lot of the Coachella Valley Preserve. It's nice and cool in there as you look out toward the mountains. It was taken with an aperture priority camera.

Colored Pencil Plein Air

I went out to a local palm grove and did this palm tree in colored pencil. This was definitely a challenge. I completed the tree in about an hour and finished the rest up in about another hour at home. It's 6 x 8.

Washingtonia Palms, finished?

I decided to go with a yellow sky and noticed, immediately, how it warmed up the painting.

Palms Continued Again

I am nearing the end of this piece. I may carry the painting over the edge or paint the edges black or white. I did not adjust the levels to this scan.

Neighborhood Palms, Work in Progress

This is a 9 x 12 acrylic painting on stretched canvas. It is currently a work in progress that is going through its "ugly stage". That's the stage where layers are built up in the intermediate stage.

These are going to be a painting of some palms near my home.
